Activating Spirit-Filled Ministries for Adventist Mission

Overall Goal: To equip servant leaders within DCN300 with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual foundation necessary to activate thriving, Christ-centered care groups, volunteer ministries, and missionary societies that effectively reach the community and grow fruitful disciples for the glory of God.

Target Audience: Potential and existing leaders of care groups, volunteer ministries, and missionary societies within DCN300 and its partner organizations.

Certification Requirements

  • Attendance: Attend all sessions of the SLT101 conference.
  • Participation: Actively participate in group discussions, workshops, and activities.
  • Assessment: Pass a written assessment demonstrating understanding of the key concepts and principles covered in the training modules.
  • Project Proposal: Develop and submit a project proposal outlining a plan for activating or strengthening a care group, volunteer ministry, or missionary society within their local context, aligned with the SPARKLE ATOMS framework.
  • Mentor Recommendation: Obtain a recommendation from a mentor or experienced leader who has observed their leadership potential and commitment to servant leadership.

Module 1: Foundations of Servant Leadership (4 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Define servant leadership and its biblical basis (Philippians 2:5-11; Mark 10:42-45).
    • Identify the key characteristics of a servant leader (humility, empathy, listening, stewardship, commitment to growth).
    • Explore the role of spiritual disciplines in developing servant leadership qualities.

Content:

  • Interactive lecture and group discussion on the principles of servant leadership.
  • Case studies of effective servant leaders in the Bible and in Adventist history.
  • Personal reflection exercises to identify areas for growth in servant leadership.

Readings:

  • Selected scriptures on servant leadership.
  • Articles on the principles of servant leadership (e.g., Robert Greenleaf’s work).

Module 2: Understanding SPARKLE ATOMS: A Strategic Framework for Outreach (3 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Explain the vision and purpose of SPARKLE ATOMS within Global Frontiers Institute and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
    • Describe the key components of the SPARKLE ATOMS framework (Association, Training, Organization, Mobilization, Evangelism, Sustainability).
    • Identify the benefits of participating in the SPARKLE ATOMS network.

Content:

  • Presentation on the SPARKLE ATOMS framework and its strategic goals.
  • Discussion on the role of care groups, volunteer ministries, and missionary societies within SPARKLE ATOMS.
  • Testimonies from leaders who have successfully implemented the SPARKLE ATOMS framework.

  • Organizational documents related to SPARKLE ATOMS and Global Frontiers Institute.

Module 3: Activating Spirit-Filled Care Groups (4 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Apply the best practices for organizing and leading effective care groups.
    • Create a welcoming and supportive environment for spiritual growth and fellowship.
    • Facilitate meaningful discussions and activities that promote discipleship.

Content:

  • Interactive workshop on the best practices for organizing care groups (small group size, shared interests, regular meetings, etc.).
  • Role-playing exercises to practice active listening, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Brainstorming session to develop creative outreach and service projects for care groups.

Readings:

  • Sections IV and VI of the SPARKLE ATOMS White Paper.
  • Resources on small group dynamics and discipleship.

Module 4: Mobilizing Volunteer Ministries for Community Impact (4 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Conduct a community needs assessment to identify opportunities for service.
    • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively.
    • Implement safety protocols and ensure volunteer well-being.

Content:

  • Presentation on the process of conducting a community needs assessment.
  • Workshop on volunteer recruitment, screening, and training techniques.
  • Discussion on risk management and liability issues in volunteer ministries.

Module 5: Intentional Evangelism and Discipleship: Sharing the Gospel and Growing Disciples (3 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Articulate the Adventist understanding of evangelism and discipleship.
    • Identify practical ways to share the Gospel in a culturally sensitive and effective manner.
    • Implement a system for following up with new believers and nurturing their spiritual growth.

Content:

  • Interactive lecture and group discussion on evangelism and discipleship strategies.
  • Role-playing exercises to practice sharing personal testimonies and presenting the Gospel message.
  • Case studies of successful evangelism and discipleship programs.

Module 6: Planning for Sustainability and Multiplication (2 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Develop a plan for ensuring the long-term sustainability of care groups, volunteer ministries, and missionary societies.
    • Implement strategies for identifying and training future leaders.
    • Create a system for multiplying and replicating successful ministries.

Content:

  • Presentation on fundraising, resource management, and leadership development.
  • Group discussion on strategies for multiplying and replicating ministries.
  • Development of action plans for sustainability and multiplication.

  • Resources on organizational sustainability and leadership development.

Module 7: Project Proposal Development & Mentorship (2 hours)

  • Objectives:
    • Develop a concrete project proposal for activating or strengthening a ministry.
    • Receive feedback from mentors on the project proposal.

Content:

  • Mentorship session by an experienced leader.
  • Group discussions and peer-to-peer feedback

Assessment Methods:

  • Written Assessment: A multiple-choice and short-answer exam covering the key concepts and principles from all training modules (20%).
  • Project Proposal: A detailed project proposal outlining a plan for implementing the principles and best practices learned in the training (60%).
    • Elements of the Proposal:
      • Clear mission statement and objectives
      • Needs assessment of the target community
      • Detailed action plan with timelines and responsibilities
      • Budget and resource allocation plan
      • Evaluation plan to measure impact
      • Plan for sustainability and leadership development
  • Mentor Recommendation: A letter of recommendation from a mentor or experienced leader attesting to the participant’s leadership potential, commitment to servant leadership, and ability to apply the training to their ministry context (20%).
